Detoxifying Your Skin and Body
Everyday living in today’s polluted and stressful environment with chemicals in the form of pesticides, additives and preservatives found in all food, water, and beauty products can often burden our body. The body’s excretion pathways may be able to counteract these negative influences for a short time, however, they become overwhelmed after long term exposure resulting in toxins through the body, compromising both our health and our appearance. Symptoms of someone in need of a detox are numerous and may include: headaches, poor sleep, tiredness, nausea, thrush, constipation, sluggishness, difficulty waking up, allergies, wrinkles, stress, hormonal imbalance, bags and/or a darkening under the eyes, depression, lowered immunity, dull skin, spots and acne, mouth ulcers, cold sores, anxiety, age spots, candida, eczema and psoriasis.
The effects your body being in an unhealthy, toxic condition often shows up quite prominently on our skin too. Pimples, congestion, wrinkles, dryness, and dull, dehydrated skin may all be a result of toxic buildup and overload in your body. When our skin is exposed to toxins the body works harder at eliminating them, leaving little time for it to work on creating new, un-damaged, healthy cells. Our internal organs finally become overwhelmed with the work load and start to push the toxins out through the pores of our skin. This leads to clogging, congestion, irritation and sensitivity of the skin that just doesnt seem to go away. To help aid your body in detoxing the skin begin with some of our easy detox tips:
1. Start eating plenty of FRESH organic fruit and vegetables.
2. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day, add a squeeze of fresh lemon or citrus fruit where you can to help cleanse the internal organs.
3. Begin taking an anti-oxidant supplement to start fighting free radicals from the inside.
4. Have regular skin detox treatments and get advice from your friendly skin detox specialist on any specific ongoing skin care regimes you should consider.
5. Exfoliate the body and face regularly to help improve blood circulation and aid in the removal of toxins and waste from the body.
6. Use a high quality skin purifying mask 2-3 times a week (we love Maja Green Purifying Mask as it draws out underlying toxins and impurities in the skin like magic and is available at Splash for only $65!)
7. Apply a good anti-oxidant to the face daily to protect the skin from environmental stress (Splash has several excellent options available, just ask any of our skin detox specialists for further advice personalized for your skin type and condition).
8. Use saunas and steam rooms regularly to help open pores, freeing them of toxins.
Remember that detoxing your skin and body is an ongoing process and that during the course of detoxification, symptoms can sometimes appear a little worse before they get better, however we think you’ll agree that this is a small price to pay for fantastic, glowing, fresh, clean skin and the satisfaction of caring for your body.
